Can't not mention this- inside the Duomo church is this statue of St. Bartholomew (one of Jesus' apostles) SKINNED ALIVE. This statue was done by one of DaVinci's students, so its modeled after his work- and shows the same level of human anatomy knowledge that DaVinci had from having studied human cadavers. It looks like he's wearing a robe in this picture- but its actually his skin!! His body is entombed in the basement of the church in a glass coffin wearing a desk mask. We saw it after taking this picture. I just looked it up on the internet and it says there his body is entombed on the Tiber Islands. So who knows- seems more likely he'd be in Italy since this is where they were preaching in the years after Christ died and rose again. In any event, I can assure you from first hand experience he looks a LOT better with skin on him- you can see him in the Last Supper painting fresco; he's the last one on Jesus' right in the blue (left side looking at painting).
