So of all the churches we've been in, this one is before the most unique and breathtaking we've seen. Not only is it beautiful and huge inside, but you can go up on the ROOF! And we went!!
Fortunately there was an elevator (for only an additional three Euros)- it was the most unusual experience we've ever had to up in the middle of those beautiful marble spires.
This is a shot of what it looked like from being ON the roof.
In this piazza outside the church, its sort of weird- cause in the dead center of the square, if you stop we've figured out you're going to get hit up by gypsies begging for money or other unscrupulous types who put these ugly ribbon necklaces on you and try to make you pay for them. So we didn't know that yesterday. I asked Carol to take my picture smiling in front of the Duomo- as I'm standing there beaming in my pride at being here, all of a sudden there's a guy in my face begging me for money- and not giving up. I finally look at him and yell "NO"- he backs away quick- and Carol snaps the picture- that's what you see above:)
