We also had to pay a visit to the Hapsburg's holiday get away- The Hapsburgs are the royalty who ruled the Austrian empire for hundreds of years- we know them in the US probably most for the fame of Marie Antoinette who was married off to the French must to her ultimate dismay. But her mother Maria Theresa is the woman with the most fame over here- she ruled as Empress of the Austrian empire after her husband's death for years. Later Empress Sissy lived a life of tragedy much like Princess Diana- its a fascinating story that I have been interested in unraveling since the time we spent last year in Vienna. Anyway- here are a few shots I took at the palace today before getting busted for taking pictures.
Apparently Maria Theresa and her husband Franz came to Innsbruck to celebrate their son's wedding- however, after a pre-wedding celebration her husband (the Emperor) dropped dead of an apparent heart attack. It took three days for word to reach Vienna (which is about 200 miles away)-. So Maria had the room her husband died in turned into this chapel. Imagine having that in your summer home :)
Another thing that always amazes me are the way you can see room after room after room in these palaces- I got this right before I got busted for the camera-
Finally this is the last shot I got in the main ballroom of the palace.
