GATE #2

A good number of gates were shaped like this as we continued on up- see those stairs on the right? They lead to a little room above the arch where the men would basically live while standing guard on the 14 gates. I should say the whole castle belonged to one rich family- and so all these individuals were employed and involved in protecting the property and goods of this person- however that person ensured their survival as many times areas just like this were their only little kingdoms with dukes and other nobles who answered to distant kings and rulers. All I know is its one thing to learn this stuff in books in gradeschool and highschool and such another to learn it by walking through it and feeling the wind blow through the trees nearby, and feel the scorch of the sun as you ascend higher and higher.
