Yes- today was the day that I went up THE stairs (Scala Sancta) of Pontius Pilates that Jesus was forced to go up during the passion! And you might ask, what are they doing in Rome?? Well, they were brought here by St. Helena in 326 AD. She was the mother of Constantine the Great who is the rule that made Christianity the official religion of Rome instead of making it illegal to be Christian.
Now I have to say, that even though I'm now Baptist- I was raised Catholic- so I was raised with a healthy dose of respect and awe for religious relics- So there was a definite fascination in the thought of actually SEEING the stairs that Jesus walked on- and then to find out, that one receives 9 indulgences of their sin for every step that they go up on their knees- that's enough sin forgiveness to last for----- months??
