US SPORTS and ITALIANS

Well we had another new experience tonight. We went out to dinner with our friends from the EURAM conference again, only this time the streets and restaurants were jammed with thousands of Italians VERY VERY fired up about this football (soccer) match between Inter Milan and Germany. They explained to us that tonight was very much for Europe like the Super Bowl for Americans. They also told us that if the Italians win - things could get crazy in the streets with celebrating- then they said if they lose- it could also be very dangerous to be in the streets- because they are very passionate about their football- and they won't take losing very well. Then they said its a good thing we are all talking English because that way they won't know that most of us are German (3 of them are from Germany and only one is from Austria). I said, "But you're all talking with German accents". They said, "They von't know that tho-- they kan't tell the differance". A little while later they started talking to one another in German and I said, "IXNAY ON THE ERMANGAY!" They looked at me with their mouths open. I said, "What's the matter- You never heard of Pig Latin before??" Mouths fell further open-- Then I tried to explain what it was- and it wasn't until I said Schvine Latin that they got it! Actually, I still don't think they get it-
