HOFKIRCHE HOFBURG

So after touring the palace we went to see something DARN interesting- it was the tomb of Emperor Maximilian which was right down the street from the palace- Apparently he was very concerned about being forgotten after his death- and so he planned and planned and commissioned artists to create this MASSIVE tribute to his life (and death)- and basically its like being on a massive chess board- with the pieces being all these people who were important to him in his life (other nobles) but also individuals like King Arthur- and other legendary figures- and in the center a huge tomb with a statue of himself above on his knees. The only trouble is he was never entombed here! By the time that he died- he had racked up so much debt- that the people forbid his body to be put here. As I recall he's with the other Hapsburgs in this bizzare tomb in Vienna. But this place was CERTAINLY a sight to see!
