Finally, this is about how far away we were from the Pope and his entourage- and it was an entourage alright. What happened is that he came in, waved to the crowd and then they began to talk to the crowd in multiple languages. It really was amazing to hear the Pope talk fluently in first Italian, French, English, German, Spanish, Portuguese and I have to admit, we left when he was on Russian! You can only hear about Portugal and Our Lady of Fatima so many times, in so many languages.
Funniest part of all, they were introducing the various groups that were there from around the world and believe it or not, they welcomed a group from St. Louis the King from Marquette, Michigan!!! We sat up in our seats and waited to hear the noise from the crowd and there was a little spattering of cheers from across the square to the left. Oh MAN people from Marquette in Vatican City with us the same day to see the Pope! It would have been so fun to get to talk with them!
